To make them feel better about something, cant think of something else to say, or just to fill a void in a conversation. i wrote this for my girlfriend a while back
Every time i say i love you
its not to have something to say,
or fill a space in a dull conversation.
its to remind you that your the best thing
thats ever happened to me.
Corny sure, whatever, but its little things like that, writting out how you feel, that show the feelings are true and they inspired something like that. Sorry for getting off topic, want my intention, just sort of flowed that way.

If it's on purpose, its because they want the person who hears it to think that the speaker loves them and that they will get more attached. The speaker will think they are more loved by the person they say it to. When they lie about it, they think they gain loyalty and lose nothing.

Because they like to lie, because they are using the word to advantage of you, because they think it's just a word, and because they are confused about how they really feel. Make them prove it before they use it.
