  • A research plan is used in science to outline what you want to study and how you plan to accomplish that goal. It helps to focus your efforts and also helps others to understand the thinking behind your project.

    Determine an Area of Study

Pick something to study that interests you and others. Try to avoid subjects that have been already been researched. A unique project will both help you stay interested and pique the interest of others.

    Do Research

Study up on the field you have decided to research. Use books, scientific journals and online databases to find out as much about the subject as you can. The better understanding you have, the easier it will be to compose a smart and feasible research plan.

    Compose an Overview

Write out what you want to study, why you think studying it is important and how you plan on carrying out the research. This will help others understand what you are doing and will help focus your ideas into a more pointed strategy.

    Go into the Specifics

Write out, step-by-step, how your plan to carry out your research. List the methods you think will work the best, how you will execute the methods and how you think those methods will work.

    Revise

Read over everything you have written. Look for grammatical, spelling and logic errors. Correct any mistakes.

    Combine

Gather your summary and step-by-step instructions into one document. Begin with the summary in paragraph form, then list out the individual steps, separating them with bullet points or another form of outline.
