  • Because not all fires are the same, different types of fire extinguishers were developed. There are five different types of fire extinguishers. Each type is designed to fight fires fueled by different types of combustible items. It is important to use the proper fire extinguisher on a blaze so as not to make the fire bigger.

    Class A

    Class A fire extinguishers are designed to put out fires being fueled by common items like wood, paper and cloth materials.

    Class B

    Gasoline, oil, grease and other burning liquids should be extinguished with a Class B extinguisher.

    Class C

    Fire extinguishers designated as class C are used to put out fires relate to electric devices such as power tools and household appliances.

    Class D
