In a cell-culture study done by the University of Florida, researchers concluded that cancer cells are affected by acai berries. This study used extracts made from the acai berry that was placed directly onto cancerous cells. Within 24 hours, up to 86 percent of the cancerous cells self-destructed; however, the cells in the study were leukemia cells, so the same results may not be true for breast cancer.

On the Other: Insufficient Studies in Humans

Because acai berry products, including juice, haven't been around long enough to adequately study, caution is advised when using acai berry products. There haven't been any studies about the effectiveness of acai berry juice on cancer in humans. It is thought that the natural metabolic process in humans may affect the manner in which acai berry juice will affect cancerous cells.

    Bottom Line

Acai berry juice may be taken by breast cancer patients as part of a healthy diet. However, a treatment for the breast cancer based solely on the acai berry juice should be avoided, as there haven't been any conclusive studies that prove acai berries can cure breast cancer.
