  • When done correctly, you can bring out the beauty of concrete floors by acid-etch staining them. On the other hand, a poor concrete staining job can look terrible. Learn the proper techniques to give your dull concrete floor an attractive finish that you can look at with pride.

    Preparation

Prepare for the acid-etch stain by cleaning your floors. Sweep thoroughly and remove any glue or oil from the concrete flooring. Use a scrub brush to clean up tough mildew and grease from your concrete. Tape the walls and doors when staining concrete flooring inside so their finish isn't damaged.

    Protection

Protect yourself as you get ready to work with the acid-etch stain solution. Cover up with study shoes, jeans and a long-sleeve shirt. Always wear a face mask and gloves when applying acid stain.

    Acid Solution

Mix the acid solution using equal parts water and acid. Apply the acid solution with a sprayer or a paint roller. Cover the surface completely, moving from one side of the room to the other. Let the solution dry. Once the solution is dry, clean it up with a mixture of baking soda and water. The baking soda will help to neutralize the acid. Mop the floor.

    Sealant

Apply a sealer once the concrete flooring is completely dry. Make sure the sealer can be used in conjunction with the brand of acid solution you applied. Apply two coats of the concrete sealer. This will enhance the colors of the acid stain and help to make your floors beautiful.
