A ceiling medallion is the perfect finishing touch for a light fixture or ceiling fan. The available sizes of medallions range from 4 inches all the way up to 34 inches. However, you can have a medallion custom made, if necessary. In order to properly size your medallion, measure the base of your light fixture or ceiling fan. The medallion should be larger than this base.
On the Other: Visual Appeal
Common issues with ceiling medallions is overpowering the fixture or not highlighting it enough. You want the medallion to be easily visible for aesthetic appeal, but you do not want it to be so large that it dwarfs the fixture. Having a medallion that is too small is also an issue since you will not be able to see it around the fixture.

A good rule of thumb is to select a ceiling medallion that is twice the size of the base of your light fixture. This will provide a balanced look that is visually appealing. You can also purchase ceiling rings that will allow you a greater range of size options.
