Pillows, regardless of the material that is used in construction, do degrade over time. If you have noticed a lack of quality sleep, headaches or neck aches upon waking, it may be time to replace your bed pillows. The type of pillow you buy will largely determine how often it needs to be replaced. Down feather pillows can last for years, while cheap foam pillows may hold up for only a few months.

On the Other: Make Them Last

However, instead of replacing a bed pillow, you can use a few tricks to get more life out of them. Check the care instructions to see if you can place them in the dryer for a few minutes to fluff them back up. This can be done on a regular basis to extend the life of your pillows.

    Bottom Line

While down and specialized foam pillows may be more expensive initally, they do provide several years of use. If you are consistently buying $5 pillows that break down in six months, you can actually end up spending more over time.
