Landscaping rocks are an ideal method of filling in borders and empty spaces around plant installations. The amount of rock used needs to be more than enough to adequately cover the ground. These rocks come in many different sizes, shapes and colors, providing visual appeal while serving their purpose of offering ground cover.
On the Other: Cost Limitations
The size of the individual rocks will be the deciding factor in how much is needed to cover an area. Although smaller rocks are generally more economical, this savings may be made moot if you need several bags to completely cover an area. While this is more permanent than mulch, the overall cost can skyrocket, depending on how large an area you are filling.
Bottom Line
If you are covering a large expanse with landscaping rocks, compare prices of different sizes of rocks and the amount that will be needed to cover the area. You may be able to save money in the long run by selecting rocks that are more expensive, but will provide more coverage.
