  • Planting vegetables in your garden is a great way to save money and spend more time outdoors. Watching your vegetables grow throughout the spring and summer will be exciting and will lead to a great fall harvest. However, when autumn comes you may be disappointed with the end of the growing season. The good news is that there are several vegetables that you can grow in the fall with great success.

    Leeks

Leeks are an interesting vegetable that look similar to a green onion. Plant leeks in your garden during the summer and you will have a great fall harvest. For those who are adventurous, try planting leeks in the fall to be harvested in the spring. It is important to know your area climate before trying to grow leeks throughout the winter months.

    Onions

If you live in an area that doesn't reach freezing, you can plant green onions that will be able to be harvested year round. On the other hand, if you live in a colder climate try planting onions in the late summer or early fall. Make sure you plant your onions in an area that gets plenty of sunlight. This will help you to grow larger vegetables.

    Squash and Pumpkins

Squash and pumpkins are the ultimate fall vegetables. Plant winter squashes and pumpkins late in the season to harvest in the late fall or early winter. Pumpkins and winter squash also store very well throughout the winter if kept in a cool dry place.
