    Points assigned to speeding violations vary per state, but follow a general guideline of the faster you are going the more points assigned to the violation. Usually two points are issued for five to 10 miles per hour over the limit, three points for 11 to 18 miles per hour over the speed limit and four points to 16 or more miles per hour in excess. Receiving four points suspends your license, as well.
