Costco is the owner of the Kirkland Signature brand. Auto batteries are one of its products. The batteries were named in 1995 after the city the original headquarters of Costco was located in Kirkland, Washington.Source:
Costco does not make batteries, grow beef, potatoes or anything else. They are a retailer and they buy what they sell from other people. The Kirkland brand is their in house brand and represents products supplied to their specifications. I believe Johnson Controls, a major manufacturer of automotive batteries, supplies the Kirkland branded batteries. You will be hard pressed, however, to find any information that would allow you to compare the Kirkland batteries to any of the other brands either made by Johnson Controls or other manufacturers. There really aren't that many companies that actually build batteries. Johnson Controls sells batteries under many brands and many 'in house' brands like Sears, Walmart, and Costco.
