  • There is no need for alarm or worry when breasts become sensitive when you are growing up. It is natural in young girls and even boys going through puberty, according to the National Institutes of Health.

    What's Happening?

The cause of sensitive breasts is all the hormonal changes that are happening in your body. The new tissue that is growing to form your breasts is usually quite tender to the touch and often achy.

    Stages

Breast development happens in stages from prepubescence throughout puberty. Sensitive breasts can occur in every stage. Breast buds are the first stage and they may be felt underneath the nipple like a small bump; they can become sore at times.

    Age

Girls start developing breasts at different ages due to heredity and personal body clocks. Usually development starts between the ages of 10 to 12, but earlier or later breast development does not indicate something is wrong. Breast sensitivity can last through puberty.

    Other Causes

Breast sensitivity and soreness can also be caused by the onset of menstruation. Sensitive breasts can also be an indication of early pregnancy; check with your doctor if you feel this may be the case.

    Misconception

Many young girls worry about sensitive or painful breasts with all the coverage of breast cancer in the media. Sensitivity and pain are not common symptoms of breast cancer.
