You'll need approximately 9 yards to cover an average-sized swivel rocking chair, using plain, non-patterned material. If using patterns or stripes, add an additional 1 to 2 yards for pattern matching.Source:

I just finished two swivel Rocking chairs.. I used 9 and one half yards for the two. This was one way floral that the main sections ...the backs and seats, took up the center of the 54 inchess with all the rest being the pattern sideways. Which was alot of waste. It was a light silver and white (see photo) I estimated the labor at $200 apiece and screwed myself royal. I would never do it for under $300 in this poor rural area of WV. It was hard to get the right side out sometimes It was a pain in the but. And I know the people who ordered it think they are getting screwed. They got the material real cheap. The work was real slow because the 8 yards I started with did not seem like enough so I really had to think about every cut was it facing right... was it centered etc. I still didn't get everypiece centered just right no matter how hard I tried I resowed one piece 3 times and it still was off a half inch.
