    The brake pads on your Honda Civic are equipped with "wear indicators." These indicators will begin emitting a loud screeching noise when your brake pads are worn out. Brake pads will normally last 50,000 miles or so under normal driving conditions; however, their life can be prematurely cut short due to excessive braking or hard starts.
