Cellular phones allow us to communicate with one another in so many different ways. The ability to have this service depends on networks built to provide them. PCS is a prime example of an important cellular network. PCS stands for Personal Communication Services. The telephony industry term refers to a class of digital mobile services. It also refers to the 1900 MHz radio band used for those digital services. The first company to set up a PCS network was Sprint in 1997. PCS networks originally were developed to enable telecommunications companies to provide cellular customers with more services through a more comprehensive system of transmitters. A few different transmission systems use the PCS frequencies. Among these are CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), GSM and D-AMPS. A few examples of services used over a PCS network are: caller ID, SMS messaging and voice mail.Facts
