  • You can rip, or copy, music from your DVD movie with the right software. This process will take the audio track from a DVD and turn it into an audio format of your choice, such as MP3. There are free programs that will do this.

    Direct Rip

One way to get music from a DVD is to use a program that will rip it directly. An example of such a program is DVD Audio Ripper (See Resources). Insert your DVD and run DVD Audio Ripper. Choose your output format, such as MP3, and the place the file in the "Output Folder." Click on "Start Rip" under the "Action" menu. The audio portion of your DVD, including the music, will be copied into the MP3 format.

    Rip and Convert

You can use also use a two step process to rip the music by using a free program like Format Factory (See Resources). It will copy the DVD to your computer. Once you have a ripped video format, you can use the same program to convert it to an audio format of your choosing.

    Record

You can also use an MP3 recording program. This may be more practical than the other two methods if you want certain music. An example of such a program is MyMp3 (See Resources).
