Windows Live OneCare Family Safety provides Internet security by prohibiting websites containing questionable material such as pornography, drugs and guns. It has a simple user interface to block questionable material, and, best of all, it's free.

Features

Windows Live OneCare Family Safety allows you to select the categories to block content from. You can change settings online and receive detailed reports on websites visited. Its contact management feature allows you to select whom your children can or cannot talk to on Windows Live Spaces, Messenger and Hotmail.

Installation

Make sure your computer meets the system requirements test before installing this program (see Resources). Download the installation file to your desktop and run it. Restart your computer, and set up a password to configure the blocking settings.

Expert Insight

Keep your password safely. However, if you do forget it, Microsoft can email the password to you. Do not set the blocking settings too high, or you will not be able to access some websites that you use.

Misconceptions

While Windows Live OneCare Family Safety blocks a world of questionable content, it will not block every single questionable website. There is a chance one of them can slip through, and that's why it is important to keep the program updated.
