If you own an automobile, then your car has a starter solenoid, you just may not ever be aware of it until a problem arises. It is necessary for the starter solenoid to be working properly in order for your car to start.
Starter Solenoid
The starter solenoid is a large coil that sits at the top of your automobile's starter and is responsible for engaging the Bendix drive with the flywheel so that power can be sent to the starter of your car.
Why Starter Solenoid Will Not Work
The starter solenoid will not work if the internal coil goes bad. If the coil is bad, then it lacks the ability to engage the Bendix or turn on the starter of your car.
How to Recognize a Problem
A problem with a starter solenoid is usually only recognized when the automobile will not start. The only symptom to the problem is when you turn your key to turn the car on and there is either a loud click and the car does not start.
The Click Noise
When you try to start your car and it does not start but you hear a click, then more than likely your solenoid is bad. The click is letting you know that the solenoid is being energized, but it does not have a current strong enough to start the engine.
How to Check the Starter Solenoid
You can check the starter solenoid by bypassing it. If you bypass the solenoid and the car starts; then you have a bad solenoid.
