Dandruff and hair loss have been interrelated for several years. However, it is the human reaction to dandruff, not dandruff itself, that should be linked to hair loss.
Definition of Dandruff
Dandruff is a condition of the scalp, characterized by white flakes of dead skin.
Causes of Dandruff
There are several causes of dandruff, including irregular shampooing or improper washing of the scalp, high intake of sugar and fats, stress, perspiration and high exposure to sunlight.
Wrong Reaction to Dandruff
Since dandruff produces irritation and itching of the scalp, people afflicted with the condition usually scratch it to relieve the symptoms. However, this ends up weakening the hair roots, and hair falls out as a result. That is why dandruff and hair loss are usually linked.
Treatment of Dandruff
To treat dandruff, all you need to do is go to your local department store and buy anti-dandruff shampoos and conditioners. You can also consult a dermatologist for additional or necessary assistance.
Significance
About 40 percent of the world's population suffers from a period or two of dandruff. Although it can be a source of emotional distress, it is a condition that can be easily resolved.
