  • Troubleshooting your Dell printer can be a real headache. You have checked your power supply, and it works. Then you have ensured that the USB cable is connected to your computer. You have even made sure that the paper tray is full. Yet you are still having printer problems. The next step would be to troubleshoot the ink cartridges.

    Troubleshooting Dell Ink Cartridges

According to Dell, the first thing to do is check your toner levels to be sure you have ink. You can do this by checking All Programs on your Windows Start button display. You will then click "Maintenance," followed by the tab labeled "Check ink levels". While you are in the Maintenance menu, another option to try would be to clean your ink cartridges. You have two options in the Maintenance menu, clean cartridges and deep clean. If this is the first time that you have performed this maintenance, you will need to choose deep clean.

    Align the Ink Cartridges

One last thing to consider is to align your ink cartridges. You can also do this while you are inside the Maintenance menu. All you need to do from there is click the "Align cartridges" control button.
