According to Maxim Innovations, more than 80 percent of the cars sold in North America and 70 percent sold in Europe have keyless entry systems. As its name suggests, keyless entry systems allow you to lock and unlock your card without having to put your key in the door.
Identification
With keyless entry, a small device on your keychain is used to unlock and lock your doors with the push of a button.
Function
When you push the button on the device, power from a battery sends a radio frequency wave to a receiver in the door of your car. When the signal reaches the car, it triggers the lock.
Types
Some keyless entry systems are also attached to the car's security alarm, allowing you to activate the alarm by pushing a button. Others have a remote starting capability that enables you to start your car before you are inside of it.
Features
In order to have a keyless entry, a car must have power locks. If a car is not equipped with a keyless entry system when you purchase it, one can be added later.
Benefits
Keyless entry systems provide extra security, allowing you to enter your car as you as you reach it without having to fumble putting a key in the lock. The systems also save time when you forget to lock your car, which you can do from a distance rather than having to return to manually lock the vehicle with the key.
