DPFE refers to "Delta Pressure Feedback of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)." A DPFE sensor is a device used in the DPFE system to compare the amount of exhaust going into an engine to the amount of exhaust leaving it.
EGR
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation system directs exhaust gas through the engine more than once. This burns more fuel out of the exhaust and serves to reduce pollution.
DPFE Sensor
The DPFE sensor measures the pressure differential between two exhaust pipes in order to ensure that the fuel-to-air mixture going into the engine remains ideal.
PCM
The DPFE sensor feeds its information into the PCM, or Power Train Control Module, to allow it to determine the correct fuel-air mixture.
DPFE Problems
If there is a problem with your car's DPFE sensor this can cause the vehicle to have a "lean misfire," which will cause it to stutter while cruising at a constant speed.
Solutions
If there are problems with your car's DPFE sensor, you should have it replaced by a certified mechanic.
