There is no specific cruising altitude for a Boeing 747. Cruising altitude is the height at which the maximum fuel efficiency can be achieved and that depends on wind speed, temperature, cargo load and other factors. For a Boeing 747 the best fuel economy can usually be achieved between 35,000 and 43,000 feet.

It varies with the weight the 747 is at. When very heavy, an initial cruising altitude will often be 28,000 - 29,000 feet. As fuel is burned off enroute, altitude increases as the optimum altitude increases when the aircraft becomes lighter. In general in the 28,000 - 41,000 foot range.
