It hurts a little but stops not too long after. I had my pubic hair and - well EVERY thing done below my waist. The guys really like it and it is very sexy feeling.

It hurt a little but I was on the maximum setting. I did get some skin darkening in one area where the laser was too high and caused a temporary scab. Six sessions were not enough to completely remove the hair. What does grow back is soft and can be shaved occassionally. It feels good to not have that tangled mess to deal with. Do it. You will like it. It's sexy.

In my experience, it didn't at all. It actually felt kind of cool... it was like a little shot of air that is warm and cold at the same time. Even when I was told that my dermatologist raised the power to "high", it didn't hurt one bit (and I'm a sensitive one!). The reason it should not hurt is because they give you topical (cream) anesthesia before, and they make you sit for 30-40 minutes so that the area is fully numbed before they begin. Also, after your first visit, the dermatologist often gives you a little container of the anesthesia to take home so you can put it on and have it on before you arrive at the office for continuing visits (this makes things go faster for them). In case you're interested, I got my upper lip treated. =)

For backs, the short answer: YES.

The clear consensus from the above answers is: MAYBE

I just finished the sixth session for my back and the process can be extraordinarily unpleasant.

THAT SAID, when the session is over (about 15 minutes with two attendants/lasers) the pain is gone instantly, and knowing that when this process is done, I'll be done for life, it's a trade I can deal with.

I had some hair removal and it does sting. It largely depends on the area of the body. I had hair removed from my arms and it wasn't bad at all. I have also had friends had some things done and here is what I have heard.

For the men reading this-I am told parts of your back and the face can be extremely painful

For women-Sometimes women have hair removed from their chin or lip and I am told that is painful as well as the bikini line.

They do offer you cream which will numb it a little bit.

Different people have different experiences, but most say it feels like getting snapped with a rubber band. Of course, a lot depends on how sensitive the area is that you're getting done.

I JUST HAD MY PUBIC HAIR DONE YESTERDAY AND IT DID NOT HURT. I WAS NOT GIVEN A CREAM BEFORE THE TREATMENT.
THE COLD AIR MADE THE AREA COLD THEN THE BLAST OF LIGHT HEATED UP A LITTLE BUT THE COLD AIR STILL MADE THE AREA COLD. I MADE MY SECOND APPOINTMENT FOR 8 WEEKS.
I PLAN TO GET ALL 5 TO 6 TREATMENTS DONE.

Yes, it hurt like hell in the bikini area but not so much in the arm pits. The area was very tender for a day or two after the treatment too. I dunno, maybe I'm just extra sensitive down there. But it also could be because I have an naturally tanned skin tone and the laser is attracted to dark so that might be why.

The darker and courser your hair is the more it will likely hurt. I've had six treatments so far on my underarms and full bikini area and it definitely hurts. They say it feels like a rubber band snap but it's more like getting shocked over and over. The lasers are pretty hot and my goggles always fog up. You just have to find that happy place in your mind, and don't hesitate to tell the technician if you need a break. I've never used the topical cream, for some reason the place I went to discouraged using it. The first treatments were the most painful, some treatments were a breeze and others not so easy. They say you can be more sensitive the closer you are to your cycle so beware of that. The results are definitely worth the discomfort so if it's something you really want then go for it!
