An iPod is a type of digital storage device that holds photographs, music, music videos, episodes of television shows and movies. One of the functions integral to using an iPod is syncing. Syncing occurs when you connect your iPod to your computer using a USB cable. The term syncing generally means updating your iPod using iTunes, the software used to download media to your iPod. By syncing, you are able to update your iPod by adding new media or removing old media. Automatic syncing occurs when iTunes automatically adds all new downloads and removes any files that you have deleted from iTunes as soon as you connect your iPod. With manual syncing, you have the option to select what items will be added or removed from your iPod. During syncing, your iPod screen will usually display an icon that reads "Do not disconnect." On iTunes, you will see an icon representing your iPod with a circle made up of two arrows rotating while your iPod syncs. Never disconnect your iPod from your computer during syncing without first ejecting your iPod in iTunes. Doing so can damage your iPod and make it impossible for you to retrieve your media.Identification
