When cleaning a computer, whether it is a desktop or laptop computer, certain physical reasons can cause the computer to make loud noises once you finish and turn it back on.
Types
The types of loud noises that a computer can make range from rattling and creaking to flapping or whirring to clicking noises. Each noise has one or more possible culprits.
Identification
Rattling or creaking noises can come from screws that have improperly fastened or seated. Loud flapping noises can come from fans that are clogged or out of alignment. Clicking or whirring noises can be caused by hard drives that are not laying flat inside the case.
Prevention/Solution
When cleaning your computer, take care not to knock wires or pieces of equipment loose. Doing so can cause the computer to sound loud once it is turned back on.
Warning
Certain types of noises can be indicative of dangerous situations. For example, any sparking or electrical noises can indicate a short in the computer which can lead to a potential fire hazard.
Misconceptions
Many people believe you cannot safely clean your computer. This is incorrect. You simply need to be careful while cleaning to ensure that no damage takes place.
