Burning foot pain can occur at the end of the day as a result of overuse, or it may be caused by one of a number of medical conditions. It is a common complaint, particularly for people over 50, according to ePodiatry.
Medical Conditions
Burning foot pain may be caused by neuropathy (nerve damage) due to diabetes, arthritis, blood disorders, a compressed nerve, chronic alcoholism, metal poisoning, liver damage, kidney failure or thyroid dysfunction.
Shoes
Poorly fitting shoes can result in burning foot pain. If your feet perspire a great deal, the problem may be compounded.
Obesity
Obesity can result in burning foot pain due to the overload on your feet, particularly if you spend a lot of your time standing or walking.
Contact Dermatitis
A sensitivity to fabrics or chemicals in your socks or your shoes can cause contact dermatitis, which can result in burning foot pain.
Infections
Athlete's foot or other fungal infections can result in painful burning feet.
Considerations
If you are experiencing burning foot pain, you should see a podiatrist or medical doctor for a diagnosis and treatment. Although it may be a simple, easily remedied problem, it could also be the sign of a serious condition.
