Help answer this question below.
The very first Article of Faith for the Church is, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." The very first question that a person is asked as part of the baptismal interview is, "Do you believe that God is our Eternal Father? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God, the Savior and Redeemer of the world?" If a person does not answer this question in the affirmative, then he/she will not be baptized and will not become a Latter-day Saint. This is a question that is part of the interview to receive the priesthood and to receive a temple recommend. One cannot be a good member of the Church if one does not believe in God.
you have to believe in many gods, and that you will one day be a god of another planet.
to be a good mormon means to throw out the word of God and make up your own stuff.
You have to believe in Joe Smith, and believe that he was not a fanatic madman.
You also have to believe that an angel brought him a book made of gold, translated the book into English for him, and then took the Golden Book away again.
I think you have to believe in MONEY to be a good Mormon. : )
No. Appearance is #1.
You can lie and say you do, but really if you believe there is no God then there is no punishment for such lying.
Being a good Mormon means you look clean, act a certain way, talk a certain way and fall in line when told. Good reasons why I like the term Morg (Mormon + the Borg= Morg)
God and Jesus, are really irrelevant in Mormonism.
What one needs to believe in (or at least outwardly display belief in) is Joseph Smith.
Joe was never really that big on the details of his religion. He had a hard time nailing down certain things.
This is evidenced by his 7 first visions.
Ranging from seeing lights to seeing angelic beings to seeing Moroni to seeing God to seeing God and Jesus.
You see, Joe is the corner stone of the Mormon cult, not God.
Part of the essential doctrine is that we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and our Savior--I don't see how you be a Christian and not believe in Christ.
YES, you really have to believe in God
to be a good, 'above-average' Moron.
You have to believe joseph smith was not a false prophet. Kind of hard when you do enough research on the subject.
Why would you even wanna be a mormon if you don't believe in god???
If you google "mormons and Zeus" there are some interesting similarities between the mormon God and Zeus. After all, does the Bible say there are many Gods and many Lords, but only One Christ. Maybe I'm not remembering my old Bible study lessons well?
You also have to believe Joseph Smith was "chosen" to bring us "another gospel".
That not only did he find these plates and translated them with a "magic stone" in a hat- but that he also translated a record of Abraham about to sacrifice his son, along with a big story about his time. Just amazing, this guy.
In order to be a Mormon you must not believe in God. If you do not believe in the deity of Jesus Christ then as He says the only way to the Father is through me and that if you have seen me you have also seen the father. Its in the Bible that they gave me, guess they didn't read it?
Well it depends on how you define "good Mormon".
The BEST Mormons that I know are "Sunstone" and "New Order" Mormons many of whom believe that Joseph Smith wasn't what he claimed to be and some of whom are atheists.
However, they remain in the LdS Church due to family or other duties, obligations, and/or pressures.
So to TBMs (True Believing Mormons) they may not be "good Mormons" but, candidly, I can spend hours, days, weeks with Sunstone and New Order Mormons without a problem, enjoy it, and not want to leave.
However, after about 1-minute with a TBM I'm ready to leave for a root canal - because it would be more enjoyable and rewarding than another second in their harsh, judgmental, critical and inflexible TBM presence.
I don't think you can "really" believe in God and even be a mormon. This is because scripture tells us we are supposed to "do justly and love mercy", two things the mormons have NEVER done. They refuse to do "justly" every time they place the interest of their members over others, especially in helping them escape the justice of the law. They can lie and say they don't do this- but it is nothing but that, a lie.
Yes.
Why are Mormons so controlling and how is it they really think they will become a GOD? There is but one GOD

What do you have to say to people who believe that being Mormon is a good way of life with a positive outcome the family but don't actually believe in the supernatural? We can use Christmas as an analogy. There are many people who truly have the Christmas Spirit but don't actually believe Santa lives at the North Pole.

This is probably the question I should have asked to begin with:

This question can't be answered any better Glen, good job.
As for your other question Malevolentbutticklis:
If I lost my faith in God I would still live the Mormon lifestyle (with the exception of tithing and perhaps church attendance) Because it really is a great lifestyle. It's just a good way to live. It's healthy, it's friendly, it's happy, and polite.
