Concentrate on you education. GPA, different groups you may have been in. Hobbies. References.
In many cases how good you are at something is largely determined by a: your initial skill and b: your ambition (will and ability to learn fast). If you lack one of them, often you can compensate with the other.
Everyone has to start somewhere. Tell them about your school and what you have been doing with yourself.
You can always be honest and tell them that its your first job. Create an entry level resume for the same.

When applying for jobs, are you supposed to send your Resume AND the (excellent) character reference from your former employer??
