It is a difference in the cell wall of the bacteria. One type of antibiotic is for bacteria with one type of cell wall and the other for the other type of cell wall. But when you take an antibiotic, it kills every bacteria in your body with that type of cell wall, including the beneficial bacteria in your gut. That is why you often get an upset tummy with antibiotics.
