For years fat people have been told the perils of obesity but they don't seem to listen. Would they listen more if it were said that fat would cause your hair to fall out, impotence in men, and teeth loss in women?

For years smokers have been warned of the perils of smoking. Do you think they will listen if they were told the same thing? ;)

Sometimes people cannot help for the fat. It doesn't matter how much they diet and exercise the fat won't come off. This isn't as black and white as you think. There are some grey areas in there too. You have to look and judge at each situation on it's own, not shave everyone over the same comb.

PS: That minus didn't come from me. We are all entitled to our opinions. +2

I know what would and will cure this.. when the private equity firms blow our world economy to hell again and everyone begins to starve to death because nobody has a job to buy the crap sold in groceries. Very few people can figure out how to live on a small bag of rice or beans for a day much less a week and most people if they can't go to Micky D's will just slit their wrists and die from blood loss instead.

Smoking has nicotine added to make them addicting, for many alcohol has addicting effects because of how it effects the body, same with many drugs. Once one is stupid enough not to avoid it, it becomes harder to kick because the body would go through physical withdrawl if it were not supplied with the given chemical. I have never heard of anyone getting physically addicted to a hotdog or tub of ice cream. And the worse thing I have ever seen (myself included) that came from avoiding food or lessening the amount very much was a loss in weight. To try to pass it off as ok because stupid people got addicted to stuff they should have been smart enough to avoid don't make stuffing your face any smarter or less dumb.

there are EMOTIONAL addictions as well as PHYSICAL addictions ... once the brain gets dependant on the endorphin/adrenalin/serotin kick that eating a tub of ice cream can give, it's no different that shooting up a needle ...
and its not a matter of intelligence, because anybody stupid enough to do drugs or get drunk/high on a regular basis loses all credibilty in my book
