One thing has to be pointed out. These were regional elections that hinged on regional issues not national ones.
In Virginia, the 2 main contestants have run against each other before. This was not a new match up.
New Jersey is a state hit hard by the recession. It could be that people were voting with their pocketbooks.
Most 'post voting' people have stated that the economy was the reason for voting as they did. I heard someone say,"it was the public primal scream of outrage" against high taxation and out of control spending by the federal government.
It's backlash against Democracy run amok.
Because liberalism became completely bankrupt in just 10 short months - fiscally economically environmentally diplomatically and so on - and hence also became bankrupt politically.
NJ and VA are so much different, yet in both states liberalism uniformly lost 20 to 25 points of support. We are looking towards landslides in 2010 and in 2012.
