provocative question! i'd guess maybe 25% me and 75% others. ???
-
Don't people give points foor helpful answers as well? So part is the kindness, and part is the person giving valuable answers and knowledge, and getting points in return for sharing that knowledge with someone else.
-
Well, I am the one asking and answering questions...
-
There is no telling but it's clear that if I wasn't here that they couldn't give me points and if I didn't participate they couldn't rate my answers or questions. So it's probably equal to both. And if I only wrote insulting things or random thoughts not having to do with anything, no one would give me points for valueless answers. We can only do our best and be generous ourselves and it all equals out. We reap what we sow.
-
I'd say its a 50/50 thing :D ((((Hugs))))
-
I think we all give each other points because we appreciate each others feelings and friendship. Which means it is a combination of us and our friends. I like to give points for well thought out answers.

My AB "success" is 10% inspiration and 90% donation. ; )
-
However much I write if others do not rate it I would still be a Level 1.
-
I guess it's a 50/50 thing..I mean yeah people give me points but I have to write questions and answer them for me to have something for people to give points to in the first place...
-
i give and i receive, seems fair in the end. i help them and reward for good answers and questions and i seem to get back for my answers and questions. for me the friendship and socializing are my main rewards the points are really gooey chocolate icing on the perfect fudge brownie. oh man if only ... i made myself crave chocolate lol ! +5

There is truth in what your saying. Some questions have absolute answers others could be considered opinion or preferance. If you have a goal of getting points be careful of an unpopular opinion you may have.
-
hopefully not much. i generally loathe kindness as a trait and when i increase another member's points, it's not out of the kindness of my heart. if i'm giving points, it's because i think that someone has added something relevant to the collective knowledge of the internet and, indirectly, to all people. i would hope, in turn, that all points that i receive would be because my contribution was relevant not because the person that rated me was being kind.

My friend SilentPurr started me of here and gave me my first social Pts. Thank you and thank you all for your time, energy and caring.Proves humanity is still worth it,I think ! No Pts necessary.

Good question, at first I was going to say it's a 50/50 thing but I don't know for sure. I mean I can tell when some one has actually read my answer or my question because there is a response or a comment and then points appear, but sometimes there are just points. I have had questions that were never answered get points!! and I wonder if some one is just pointing questions or answers because some answers or questions are just absurd and yet they get all kinds of points. So I wonder how much of it is due to random point giving, or points awarded because they actually read my answer. Very good question and point.

80% donations 18% me with 2% unsure
-
I just gave everyone that answered this points =]
-
I would only guess 50% of where I am. If I didn't reply with helpful answers or didn't ask questions that people thought were good, then I would have only my moderation points.
-
I think both share a equal part in that. Its give and get. We help people with their questions. We get helped for our questions. And points are compliments that we share for the great service and friendship we share.
-
I do greatly appreciate it. I've leveled up rather quickly thanks to the benevolence of complete strangers, it's almost heart warming. Hah.
-
I bless them with brilliant questions so clicking a + button is really the least they could do in return.
-
True and some people ask like 20 questions per day..that helps.
-
It is all do to the kindness of strangers. (Or not if you get DRed.)
