Help answer this question below.
It looks like the religious believe that we are born destined for hell unless god intervenes. That is a heck of a way to run a religion.
Nobody will go to hell when they die, even if they do not believe in God.Anybody who beleives that a loving God would send people to hell is living in cloud cuckoo land.
You got it wrong. God doesn't send anyone to hell. We send ourselves to hell by choosing to be disobedient to his commandments. You can't be a fornicator an adultetrer a thief a liar a murderer etc and expect to go to heaven. If you choose the things of the world over the things of God that is your choice to make. Afterall God did give us all free agency to make our own choices. With those choices though comes consequences. Choose to follow the ways of the world and disobey God's law and being cast into hell is the consequence for disobedience. It is like your parents when you were growing up. If you disobeyed then there was probably some sort of punishment for disobeying them. It didntmean they didn't love you because they punished you for being. bad. They did it out of love and because they wanted you to grow up to be a decent productive member of society. Its the same with God.. he is the father of our souls and he cannot allow us to continually ne disobedient to his laws without some sort of repercussions for that disobedience.
How can people ask this question a thousand times and think they are being clever?
I have never seen anyone asking this question who wants a real answer. They are looking foe an argument or looking for a chance to preach their idea of God.
I just figured out something. God is flawed. People say that god is perfect but if he was he wouldn't be jelous if someone worships another god. Then his stupidity in giving the people the ten comandments but being himself above them and telling people to brake one of the rules which would give you a one way ticket to hell.
To the question. God isn't loving he is not even real. Since he has the exact same emotions that humans do. So he doesn't love anyone expect his mindless bible humpers.
He wouldn't.
A loving God wouldn't. Which is why He doesn't.
They send themselves to Hell. There is a way to avoid it, and it is a relitively simple thing to do. People are given to being too stuck on proving that they don't have to believe in or accept God, and can do anything they want to consider it. They think that their ticket out of Hell is too restricting to having all the "fun" they want now to think about their immortal soul.
Because the very people that don't love God will be the one's sent to hell. The great thing is that God gives us all a chance to escape it. God's plan of salvation is the way out.
A loving God doesn't send people to Hell.
A just God sends people to Hell.
Hell is what we create, both on earth and beyond.
I don't know. Do you think people like Casey Anthony, Scott Peterson, Anthony Sowell, or John Allen Mohammed should be given a get into heaven free pass?
I would say it even stranger than he sends to his own son to be tortured and killed. No father would ever do that.
Maybe he likes watching people being tortured....actually if there really was a god out there in the universe I would expect that to be the real reason - of that I have little doubt.
better yet what if he does not, maybe its a scare tactic
"Tough love"?!
;-)
I actually wrote this answer for a similar question but I think the same answer applies to this question as well.
The question was: If God is so forgiving and loving why did He feel it necessary to create Hell?
And I Answered: To protect truth. If you murderer and convicted don't you go to jail? The punishment fits the crime. So in the same ways those who follow irreligion and over indulge in the 7 deadly sins are only being punished according to their own actions. It is not really God's fault but people. In fact God does shows us the right path by giving us exmplemary great souls like Saints, Angels etc, the Holy scriptures, and a conscious to make sure we don't sway from the path of Truth. God even comes down directly when irreligion is at a point of destroying the world. Since everyone has individuality and to some extent choice, people can make the decision to live of a life dedicated to God or sin. People aren't in control of the result but do have choice and individuality. Therefore if one dedicates themselves purely to God and acts, thinks, and prays with truth, love, devotion and respect; those souls go to Lord's Eternal Kingdom never hell.
Hope my answer for that question, was helpful in answering this question. If not, I would be glad to write another answer.
Downraters are welcome, but leave comment why you do so. otherwise you are all fundamentalists to me.
You have been misinformed, god does not send anyone to hell!
as far as i can tell
we call it hell
we say God sends us there
How can a loving parent spank their children?
He loves beating a dead horse ?
I'm an atheist but back a long long long time ago when I did fancy notions of the existence of a creator I would ponder the same thing. Being raised in a Baptist environment and also being exposed to Catholicism, 7th Day Adventism and some other religions I got a pretty decent understanding of religion and it's teachings. For me being an Atheist was not a conscious decision, I just couldn't help myself from asking "WHY?!" There seemed to be so many things that didn't make sense, things that contradicted other things, things that were interpreted differently amongst religions and amongst people of the same religions. I couldn't help but feel like I was being asked to just accept things without question and to simultaneously have blind faith in something enigmatic.
One of these big questions I always had was "why would God send someone to hell"? Now I won't go into the tons and tons of information about how churches conjured up Hell to control the poor or how the idea of Hell and goin there goes against half of what Christ spoke about.
What I will say is this, and it is a TRUTH, one you can see with your eyes and feel with your heart and it is undeniable. Assuming there is a God or Creator, then this creator is undoubtedly our mother/father. This being by all regards is superior to us in mind, body and spirit and has the capacity for power and emotion far beyond our own. Any emotion we have and experience it must be assumed then is one that was specifically seeded in us and therefor probably an emotion this creator has. Take for example LOVE. Our creator supposedly loved us so much he made all of this for us, he sacrificed for us, he is without a doubt, according to teachings, the epitome of love..the Bible itself says "GOD IS LOVE"..he is love, the embodiment of love, the essence of it.
The bible spends a lot of time trying to prove how much love God has for us and true, sometimes it is tough love but the one flaw I find in all of this is that we as humans are capable of almost infinite levels and acts of love. A parent can see their child do some horrible things and STILL love their child. No matter how bad someone is, no matter how evil they turn out or the deeds they perform, they ALL were once someone's innocent baby. We as humans are capable of astonishing acts of altruism and unconditional love. So why isn't god?
To a parent, no matter what, you love your child and hope the best for them, hope to protect them from harm, hope they make good decisions and do your best to guide them...but no matter what you always love them and never want to see them in pain or agony..you might want to see them punished but not tortured for eternity..just enough to learn. Would not a god, capable of infinite love, want the same?
Think about life and all the trials and tribulations, the sickness, death of everyone we know, sadness, hurt, despair, that comes with living in this world. No human no matter how devout they are is immune to these things. No human is innocent, we all do right and wrong and are ALL instilled with the capacity for infinite good or bad. Much of the good and bad we bring upon ourselves or is a result of society or social mores. It is unavoidable to some degree. If there is a hell, it might very well be Earth. But to see a creator make all of this and to destroy most of it, especially when the creator is enigmatic, removed and hasn't been in touch for over 2000 years seems a bit unconditional to me. If god is love wouldn't he more accurately be like "Hey guys I exist and I laid down some ground rules for living good and you can believe in me, I want to be your friend, and I can make things much easier for you down there...but it's really up to you, you can decide not to believe in me and do what you want, it's up to you, I still love you and all..just trying to make things easier for you is all". Wouldn't that be more like unconditional love? Wouldn't god want to enjoy all of his creations regardless? If one is wicked, did not god make him so? If society made him wicked did not god make society? If the world is wicked did not god make the world? Don't most parents bear the burden of their children's misdeeds upon their own shoulders? Are they not partly responsible? If we are all children of god then aren't we not responsible for the welfare and actions of our brothers and sisters? Are we not all locked in a sea of cause and effect? How many of our decisions are really our own and how many are dictated by society, our situation in life, our location or income or countless other determinants? We as a species are bound are we not? And if we are then I think from a religious viewpoint we are all family and we have not learned to take care of each other and the bad in this world exists because of this. We are all really just children trying to make our way through this existence with NO REAL answers and no definitive REAL guidance. No system has been proven to be accurate nor effective in solving the problems of the world or delivering us answers to it. I think if there is a god, and this god of infinite compassion and love is capable of so much more than us, then this god loves us all no mater what and understands why things are the way they are and eventually would want us all by his side. He put us here to enjoy us and enjoy us enjoying all he made..why would he want to send us to hell?
Tough love.
Why SHOULDN'T he--if that's where people CHOOSE to go? He laid out his plan to AVOID going to hell. If we choose not to follow this plan--oh well...
Suppose for a moment that a wonderful man, “Mr. Right” offers a marriage proposal to the woman he loves.
"Marry me," he says, "and I will give you a life like you've never dreamed of before. You will be loved with the greatest commitment and passion that any woman has ever known. I will give you the finest house with all of the wonderful things you've ever wanted, and you will be happy for the rest of your days!"
Now suppose the woman is very flattered by the proposal, but is uncertain about whether or not she is ready for such a commitment.
Asking for a few more days to think it over, Mr. Right answers, "You are welcome to take more time, but it's only fair that I warn you what will happen if you decline my generous offer. Your only option, other than spending paradise with me, is to be thrown into my underground dungeon, have your eyeballs plucked from their sockets, your fingers and toes cut off, and continually be burned with a soldering iron every hour, on the hour, for the rest of your life."
What do you suppose would be going through the young woman's mind at a time like this? I imagine that would change the way she feels about the man considerably.
She might have previously accepted Mr. Right's proposal because of her love for him, but is there much chance of that now?
Surely not. If she takes him seriously, she'll undoubtedly marry him, but not as much for love as out of genuine terror at the alternative.
Is this God's way of doing things? Does God want His people to turn to Him out of fear that they will be tortured otherwise?
Where is the love in that? If everyone really believed in this doctrine, wouldn't that properly tarnish their concept of the Savior? I would imagine some might even have a hard time calling Him "Savior" at all.
How merciful can it really be to create a never-ending torture chamber for those who do not want to know or love him?
And let's be honest, how would you feel if you were in a blissful place but you knew your loved ones and family were being tortured? Food for thought.
God wants all people to go to haven but some people take themselves to hell by doing bad things !
God orders us to build the earth "universe" when we destroy it we get ourselves to hell
God orders us to love each other but we hate
how god" Allah" will send us to haven when we don't deserve !!???????????
Because some people oppose God by setting themselves up in place of God.
The deal is this. God doesn't send people to Hell. People send themselves there by unbelief and rebellion against God. The way the earth, heaven and hell were designed. The way that man and woman were designed. The ultimate devine plan and the laws that are in effect are just that. There is no way God is going to change the gameplan just for you. See, what's happening here is that God has created all of these things the way in which He sees fit. And you just plain and simply don't like it, because it doesn't get you off the hook to lead a completely selfish and sinful life. Here's some real good advise. Seek the Lord while he is playing the role of your Savior and Redeemer because when you you leave this world and go to the next one, He will be playing the role of your Judge. The very first thing to realize, know and accept is that God is God and you are not. So, guess what that means. Since God is sovereign and is in charge whatever He does or allows to happen is justified. By the way I have asked this question before too and understand where it's coming from, so I tell you these things not to brow-beat but to hopefully get you to seriously consider seeking God for the direct answers He can provide you once you get connected and plugged in thru faith, hope and love. Peace
He doesn't.
A Sadistic God determined to send folks to Hell does.
by disrepecting him
I do not think GOD has enough time for this....
Those who like to co-exist with GOD are in their heaven and others are in hell....
If you are not present someone where, it implies that you are absent there and present somewhere else.. right....
Heaven and hell... two sides of a coin....

When God created spirits, He offered them the opportunity to accept or reject His Control Agreement, which allows God to control the spirit to prevent sinning. If the spirit declined His offer for the agreement, the spirits retained their freewill which opened them to sinning. God made rules and regulations to followed and He allow them this information before they declined His offer for His agreement.
Would you like someone to come into your home space and do as they please even calling you names, murder others, engage in illicit sexual conduct, etc. without any consequences?

You're reading How can a loving God send people to Hell?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:
Comments
Depends on the religion or sect of it. One of the things that sets the USA apart from Europe is the heavy protestant influence during the formation of a cultural identity that was different then that of Europe's. Calvinism was pretty popular then and believes that you are predestined from birth to go to heaven or hell, and you can't change that. One of the ways people would try to figure out if they were of the "elect" or not was to work hard and try a variety of professions, take risks as entrepreneurs, and try new ways of doing things. The logic being that if they were successful in their endeavors, it is because they were part of the elect and going to go to heaven.
To contrast, try going to an area that has a heavy Roman Catholic influence in it's past. Italy and France are good examples. Here in the USA New Orleans would be the closest you can get to what I'm talking about. People are laid back, take their time doing things, and generally work a lot less.
by leetmeat on November 12th, 2009
So what you are saying is that if you think you might go to hell you work harder?
by Ron C on November 12th, 2009
What I'm saying is that Calvinists, and sects with similar beliefs of predetermination, believed that succeeding in your worldly endeavors was a sign that you were in fact of the elect that would be going to heaven.
I'm just stating an occurrence of predetermination that had a significant effect on later economic power and cultural belief.
I remain ambiguous as to the specific belief's practicality here.
by leetmeat on November 12th, 2009
What I know of Calvinists is that they were rather dour, didn't celebrate holidays and were stiff and formal. If they believed that they were destined for heaven or hell, why work so hard. It seems that it wouldn't have mattered because they were preordained to their destiny. I sound awful to me.
I blame the Puritans for most of the ridiculous laws we have about sex and liquor. They have an extraordinary influence for a sect that no longer exists.
I agree that the Protestant work ethic helped make the country what it is. I just wish we could taper off a little.
by Ron C on November 12th, 2009
You're not being objective enough as you have to be able to convince yourself for a moment, that you believe beyond any doubt, that god predestined you to go to heaven or hell. Then you can understand that you would be pretty interested in which group you fell under, hence working hard to succeed to prove to yourself you are in fact of the elect.
I'm a nihilist atheist, nothing really matters in the big scheme of things and there is no afterlife. Does that mean I just kill myself now? Obviously not as I'm still here. Life takes on a whole new character that you never realized when you loose the arrogance of religion. Make of it whatever you want, but you only get one shot, one short stay here on planet Earth, so appreciate it.
by leetmeat on November 12th, 2009
Thanks for the explanation. It's not surprising that the membership in calvinist sects dropped. It's an awful way to go through life.
I agree with your atheist philosophy but wouldn't call myself a nihilist. I believe that we can have an affect on the "big scheme of things". Maybe not a lot, but enough to influence the future, kind of like the butterfly flapping its wings in the Amazon. I have grandchildren and want their life better than mine.
by Ron C on November 13th, 2009
Big scheme of things meaning the universe as a whole. We could do a number of things on this planet and solar system that would impact it in a huge way if we, as a human race, united to do it. But unless we can come up with unified equations for quantum mechanics and the other 4 forces (gravity is a real bitch), we probably won't be able to effect anything outside of our solar system in any way.
That's all I mean by "big scheme of things."
Hopefully, we will develop ways of practical interstellar travel and spread out to the cosmos one day. Otherwise, we're pretty much resigned to our fate marooned on our little blue rock here. As great as our Sun has been to us thus far, we have about .5-1 billion years left before it will make things too hot and boil up all the oceans. Sounds like a long time, but look how fast those first 4.2billion years here on Earth flew by!
by leetmeat on November 13th, 2009
Yeah, the first 4.2 billion slipped by so fast, all I remember is the last 60 or so years. There is a new project that was just launched. They are testing solar sails but as you suggested, they only work in the solar system. Not much light pressure outside a solar system. I am confident the problem of light travel will be solved if we can start spending money on research instead of the military. Just imagine how much we could have learned if them money wasted on useless wars was spent for education and research. Ironically most of the wars are based on religious and political philosophy.
by Ron C on November 13th, 2009
Actually I meant 4.6billion years. Believe me us geologists can't remember all the dates of epochs either.
Well, when we do develop that technology for interstellar travel, you can be assured the military will immediately start figuring out ways to kill better with it. They'll even be able to go discover whole new planets of stuff to kill!
by leetmeat on November 13th, 2009
Oh, a geologist, I became an electronic engineer because I couldn't remember formulas, just how to work them out. Not good at memorizing times and dates.
I think that we will de-emphasize the military. That's why I support education in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan, and especially the U.S. Well educated people are more likely to find ways out of problems that don't involve blowing up your neighbor. The last few years have shown that the less secular education and more religious education a population has, the more likely they will resort to violence.
I believe U.S. universities should be low cost of free to citizens that qualify. 1 month of the war in Iraq would pay for thousands to get doctorates in the U.S.
