I think it should be legal everywhere. Making it against the law hasn't stopped it, just made it dangerious for all parties concerned. As shown by the places that do allow it, making it a legit business makes it safe, and generates tax revenue. As far as the prostitutes, if they choose that for a living fine by me, but as long as it in illegal, they will have to deal with what comes with working outside the law.

- I made a deal with my wife and god that I will only have sex with her. If I wasn't married I might think about using a legal prostitute. I wouldn't use an illegal one.

They need Christ, it's that simple. I really have a lot of sympathy and compassion for prostitutes.

- They need him because they are sinners (as we all are) but these people are sinners because they NEED a way to provide for themselves and their family, and this is the only way they can see to do that. They are enslaved to this world. However with Christ they can overcome the world, just as Jesus himself did:

I think it should be legalized. Prostitution is not for me...but it has always been with us and maybe it is time we realized that. Maybe it's time that we made it cleaner and safer for both sides.

I feel that it's fine, and I feel that prostitutes are fine. The whole industry should be legalized to make it safer for all involved. If only consenting adults are participating, then I don't see the issue, and I don't see why it's everyone's business.

- It really doesn't matter if you approve or disapprove. If consenting adults want to do things with their bodies, why should you have a say? It's not really your business, if you disapprove of prostitutes, don't have sex with them.

  Also, you don't have to agree with everything going on in your country. I don't agree with laws prohibiting me from marrying, I don't agree with laws regarding the gangs in my country.... I don't approve of a lot of things, but we don't live in a perfect world where everything is aligned with our personal views. We have to realize that other people live in the world with us, we can't always have everything our own way. Denying other people the right to do what they want with their own body is despicable. What if the majority of people decided that you weren't allowed to walk, would you consider that fair? You walking does not negatively impact on their lives, so why should they have a say?

- You think these women want to be prostitutes? You think they want to get payed money to have sex with strange men? I find that pretty unlikely. It's more like they're desperate to pay bills, eat, and support a drug habit.

- So? Do you think that people want to work at the supermarket? Of course the majority don't!! They just want to be able to eat, to have a house, to pay the bills, and to have clothes to wear. It's the same for prostitutes. Sure, not many people really want to work, but most of us have to. If some women choose to work as prostitutes, that's their business, just like if a woman chooses to work at walmart or at McDonalds. And yes, some women DO want to be prostitutes. It's not difficult work, and you can make thousands of dollars a day. It's a very good way to become incredibly rich.

  And no, I don't. I personally would not have sex for money, but I don't think that it's my business if other people want to. I think it's more morally objectionable to try and control other people's lives than it is to have sex for money.

- Also, the "slippery slope" argument is pretty much rubbish in this context. The reason prostitution should be legal is that it would be safer if legalized, and if done discreetly, does not effect anyone but the persons involved. Heroin is different. People on heroin drive dangerously, they neglect their children, they hurt other people while on their high. If there was a way for people to do heroin without hurting others, then I'd be fine with it. It's their body, they can ruin it if they want to, it's not for me to dictate. However, this is not the case. Heroin use effects outside parties severely, so no, it should not be legalized. If we legalize prostitution, we won't suddenly legalize substances which will hurt the general public.

  You're right, we can't just let people do whatever heinous thing they want, we do have to have some law. This is because some heinous things that people choose to do severely hurt other people. Prostitution is not one of these things.

- You are actually comparing women getting paid to give their body to a man, to working at a supermarket. It is highly immoral and I would NEVER live in a country that would support such a violation of decency. Prostitution is the lowest form of exploitation of women, IT IS NOT EXCUSABLE. You seem to be referring to high-class call girls instead of the typical prostitute. No woman wants to be an everyday prostitute, there are a few nymphomaniacs that have no problem being one of those fancy, well-dressed hookers. Bottom line, it's indecent. We have to draw the line somewhere, we have to set down a law against indecency. People aren't allowed to have sex in public places, not allowed to commit incest, and neither of those things hurt people (incest does sometimes).
  I really hope you never become a hooker. I'm worried about you.

- Indecency is subjective, which is why we cannot make laws regulating it and be fair at the same time. To me, prostitution IS decent, to you, it isn't. To you, women wearing pants might be decent, while to someone in the middle east, a woman wearing pants would be totally indecent, and an offense punishable by whipping. We need laws against things that hurt people, like incest DOES (which I won't delve further into here), but we do not need laws against things which hurt nobody, with the possible exception of the participants, such as prostitution, wearing pants, etc etc.

  And I don't think I ever will become a hooker. It doesn't appeal to me, I actually find the whole concept kind of gross, but I don't think that my feelings should prevent others from living their lives as they want to, especially when they aren't hurting anyone.

  There's definitely a difference. Just look at that beautiful hooker that Eliot Spitzer was busted with, "Ashley Dupre", and compare that with your average prostitute. Big difference. I don't know if they're all "nymphos" but they might be. My guess is they are, sadly.

  The woman is being exploited of course. The man is using her to release his sexual frustrations, and satisfy himself. While this poor woman is doing it because she needs the money. That's got to take an emotional toll on the hooker. She's not "just lying there", she's having her entire body used as a sex toy. That is so disgusting and wrong.

- Yes, the man is using the woman to get sexual release, and the woman is using the man to get cash. Like I said, it's not exploitation. Exploitation, as defined by the dictionary, is: "benefit unfairly from the work of (someone), typically by overworking or underpaying them."
  
  Hookers, if they know what they're doing, get paid well. If the industry was legalized and regulated, they could choose their own hours, and their pay would be better, as they would be out from under the thumb of greedy, unregulated pimps. If the hooker consents, it's hardly "unfair". It's two consenting adults participating in a sex act. And again, YOU may think that it's wrong, but a lot of us don't, it's entirely subjective. If you don't like it, don't participate, but don't insist that other people shouldn't be able to participate either.

I am somewhat torn between whether it should be illegal or not. Part of me thinks it should be legal because well like all things that are made illegal there is a special interest to do it more. Also prostitution will never stop no matter what and the fact that it does provide jobs is also a positive. There however are the disadvantages. No matter how careful you are in such a business there is always the spread of disease. Also many prostitutes do not want to live such a life. High paid call girls do not represent most of the prostitute population. A lot of prostitutes are poor (hence why they do such a profession) and are desperate for money. They sometimes end up joining a pimp and other money hungry bosses who exploit them. If that is not the case then there always is the fact that some prostitutes barely make enough money. Just think about them not just in the city but in many places. Another disadvantage would be the fact that although prostitution does not cause physical harm, it does cause emotional harm. Prostitution is easily available for men and women (yes there are male prostitutes in the world)readily at the touch of their fingertips. This can destroy marriages and relationships and although it is also immoral to tell a person what he or she can do in their life, it is also (according to my morals) immoral to let such a profession that does in fact exploit women and does destroy relationships become legal. So as you can see I can not make a clear choice... As for prostitutes themselves I do not know any and although they may not hold the same morals as me since I would never become one I think they deserve respect.

It's been legal in most states of Australia for a long time. The industry is well regulated, trafficking is minimal and perpetrators caught pretty quickly and it is pretty safe for both provider and providee.

It's been around for as long as there have been people - and practiced unofficially inside many a 'standard' relationship (you know - "take out the garbage and do the lawns and there'll be something in it for you, honey").

I've met some cool, interesting and lovely women who've worked in the industry. There are, of course, unscrupulous operators and vulnerable women with big issues working in the industry as well - but hell, you can meet plenty of people like that in any business.

- Trafficking is pretty hard to keep a count on since it's illegal but I will give you that Australia is better at controlling it than other countries. Having no land borders and strict immigration regulations is helpful there. The US is not known for being the best at border control so I would guarantee the same success here.

I judge people by who they are and not what they do for work, but in many ways what we do defines who we are. All I can say is, it's not the life I choose for myself, or would ever choose for myself for that matter.

Meaningless sex and money. It's a bartering of two things that I'm not very interested in, nor understand the global appeal of.

They don't bother me with their own sub-econemy, so I don't have anything against them, but I just don't understand it at all.

I feel prostitution should be illegal. I believe legal prostitution would invite sex trafficking to become even more prevalent. If you are not familiar with sex trafficking I suggest researching it, but be prepared to be shocked and disgusted.

As for how to do I feel towards prostitutes. My heart breaks for them. They are worth so much more.

I think it should be legalized and heavily regulated to cut down on STD's. It's the pimps that make prostitution such a blight on society. If prostitution was legalized and regulated, voila! no more pimps.

I'm ambivalent towards prostitutes as I've never personally known one, but I can understand that desperate economic times sometimes call for desperate countermeasures, and if that's how someone chooses to feed their family (or their coke habit, but let's not get into that) than it's none of my business.

I think it should be legalized.
I dont really feel anything towards prostitutes because I don't personally know any, however if I did I doubt I'd want to be their friend because frankly we have a different set of personal values...however i still think it should be legal.
