No - I occasionally tip cows and have been know to tip many a glass of ale in my day - but I never tip people.

Besides - if you tip someone they may loose their balance and fall.

Oh, you mean at a hotel.......I think that I've tipped a few times when they've answered my request for extra towels or a pull-out and, of course, for room service. But if you were my housekeeper, I'd wait until the holidays and give you a nice tip then.

No. If anyone was my maid I wouldn't pay because I'm already paying for the service I'm being provided. Nothing is free, and since you are not working for free, I don't pay extra for nothing.

I know it sounds harsh, but if you think about it is fair. Do we tip the staff at McDonald's? I don't and most of the people I know don't tip either.

Tips are gratitudes and there are places and times when it is correct (and a must) and others not so much.

If I can afford to have you as my "maid" no, I do not tip you. If you provide service to house guests of mine, THEY should tip you for excellent or beyond the call of duty service.

It would also be appropriate for THEM to inform me of your especially considerate care for their needs...and at that point, especially if there were a lot of extra duties carried out by you, I WOULD need to slip a bit extra into your next pay check.

I SHOULD, however, be reasonably lavish at Christmas, and also remember your birthday or the date of hire in some manner, to express my delight in the quality of your work.

If you are my maid, employed by a Hotel...then of course I would tip you for a job well done! I would also let the Hotel manager know how kind, friendly and on the ball you were!
