I'm not so sure that it needs to. As I understand it, it has changed, and improved, its immigration policies. The problem for many is the immigration policies relating to the EU. More specifically the new EU members. That situation was entirely misjudged, yet I also think it is over-hyped by the media. Much to my Dad's dismay, I am highly cosmopolitan minded rather than communitarian. I believe in the relatively free movement of people. For me, it is more urgent that Britain learns to deal with the affects of immigration, and more importantly that it changes its immigration policies purely in relation to its asylum policies. The way Britain deals with asylum seekers is shocking.

No, I'm quite happy with our immigration policies now. I do think the asylum system still needs colossal work, in terms of processing time & those oppressive, prison like detention centres.

I know I will get downrated for this but I honestly think we should take a far harder stance on illegal immigrants and ideally close our doors to any more migrants until we can sort out the problems of our own people. We have homeless people, elderly people who have paid taxes all their working lives living in poverty - charity begins at home and we should be looking after those people before we start giving handouts to economic migrants.

i think it would cut back on immigrants if we done like the states and dont let anyone in with a police record. But unfortunatelly here we litterally let anybodt in.Even illigall immigrants know that if they dont get caught within a certain time the government will have an amnesty and let them stay. And wat really hacks me off is that a lot of thepeople from outside the eu that come here are tottaly against the british way of life...They also start forming their own communities in which this government seems to encourage.....If it all goes wrong the people who started it blair then brown and also jack straw should be brought to book for ot

Yes, There are a lot of changes i would make: make yourself comfy ;-) 1. Stop this virtual amnesty on illegal immigrants, wherever they are found they should be returned home. 2. Scrap the Human Rights Act. This has made it so difficult for us to do anything to protect the homeland. 3. Limit Legal Aid, so that you can use it to access a solicitor to defend your case, grant them one appeal, end of, we are spending a fortune on unlimited appeals. 4. Ban the polygamy. At present you can marry more then once abroad and then bring the new wife back to Britain. This is totally unethical, and god knows why a so called Liberal minded government has allowed it to happen. 6. Have a cap of about 50,000 immigrants allowed into the country per year, and these have to points qualificaton system, - this has been adopted by they are currently letting 250,000 plus into the country. 7. Amend the Asylum procedure so that anyone who has arrive via a third country cannot be granted asylum. Also allow Asylum only to be granted at Airports. 8. Further amend the Asylum laws so that only peaceful, democratic advocating but persecuted people are allowed into the country, i don't want any more islamic militants being granted asylum because Libya etc hate their guts. 9. Make people sit a psychometric test on their attiudes and values before they are granted citizenship. 10. Amend the benefit system, so that you cannot claim benefits as soon as you arrive in the UK. Whilst, the above is controversial, and some may see it as harsh, i feel it is fair, and is in the best interest of everyone in the country. We would only get people that want to come here to prosper, and who share our views on the world etc, and compliment our skills base.

Yes. It's a small nation with far too many people in it. It's high time to "close the door" on immigrants into the UK.

Yes. The system is far from perfect and needs tweaking. Imo immigrants should need to make themselves known as immigrants at the earliest possible opportunity. This could be at the country of departure via the local embassy, or if they are smuggling themselves into the UK then on the boat!
