The right tour with the right company can be an excellent value because of their experience, connections and buying power.

It depends on the place and the tour. Some tours can completely transform your view of wherever you're visiting. You can be introduced to places you'd have never seen before, get great history in the right way, incredible stories, etc. The wrong tour can make you want to blow your brains out.
