I overheard a Christian woman saying there is no women pastors in her church and she has no desire to be a pastor because it is not a woman's place in the church Biblically. Do feminist believe Christian women have it wrong?

• interesting how perspective determines interpretation... I interpret this to mean that womens role is of far greater importance and that men are given the role of leadership to give us something more than mere money to contribute.
  you do not give away your stand in your very good eloquent answer (a good tallent to have as it shows you can look at things from a more generic perspective... most people today ONLY see their side and lack this tallent) if you do not mind my asking, where do you stand?

• i do not mind at all. as a christian woman that believes the bible is of divine inspiration, i believe that God gave man authority over a household. he therefore has the responsability to make final decisions on weighty matters. as in a ship that has a captain, so the man is head of his household. (ephesians 5:22-33)i also believe that in spirital matters the male should take the lead. this however does not mean women are held in less regard, or that this makes us inferior to a man. the bible assigns a very honorable role to the woman, such is found in the book of proverbs. just the fact that we were endowed with the ability to bear and give birth to a child is an honor i would never trade. to feel a life inside, nurturing that life and then one day finally seeing what comes out of the womb is an experience no man will ever know about. God has made woman with many talents and abilities. it is this system of things that hinder a woman's rights and stifle our creativities. i believe a world is coming that will change all that. in this world, all of mankind will finally enjoy the freedoms we were born with and entitled to enjoy. God's kingdom will make justice, and right all of the injustices. for this reason i do not believe in taking matters in my own hands. not that it is always easy living with the decisions my husband makes. he is not perfect and at times he will make decisions i don't agree with.

• I very much agree. I believe men lead not because we are superior but to compensate for the fact that women have the most important role in the family. I love the captain of the ship analogy, it makes the woman the first mate, the first mate is an advisor and executor on the ship under the captains rule... however IF the captain fails in his duties (to watch over the wellbeing of the ship and all on board) it becomes the first mates DUTY to relieve the captain of command. I think it is a husbands vow to never deny his wife the freedom to submit by failing in his duty to ensure the wellbeing of his family.

• I'm not sure that male leadership is compensation. But more to do with the fact that God gave him the job. Men lead because as 'mankind' we collectively are image bearers of God. Our God is a relational God, and he is also a God of structure and order. We worship our God by abiding by the roles and boundaries that he has defined for us, which are for our own good.
  
  Men have a particular part to play as God's image bearers. As we are to display both dominance and love. As benevolent patriachs, we are to be like the good shepherd, who sacrifices himself for his sheep.
  
  Also, consider that women go up and down constantly. Men by nature are static and constant. (It is much easier to judge the current when you are standing on solid ground.)

  Because they know what is good for them. Because they love their husbands enough to trust them. Because life is so much better when your partner has got your back covered, and not trying to stick a knife in it. Because that is the way men and women were created. Because we worship a God who loves us and has told us that this is the way we ought to live.
  
  It has nothing to do with capability, it is about letting go of our individuality so that we can work together as a team.
  
  Did you ever consider that this also makes christian men feel uncomfortable? Men struggle with their role as leaders just as much as the women struggle with their task of following.

• I’m sorry but I see no reason other than male dominance why a female couldn’t do finger quote male jobs we are both human, thus capable o the same things. I don’t care what sex you are or what some dusty old rule book written by men for control & dominance says, a woman can be & should be just as good of a leader as a man. Having a dick doesn’t automatically make you a better leader.

• Without getting into an argument as to the suitability for any particular sex for any particular job... I shall leave that argument for another time and contain myself to two observations:
  
  1. You do not believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and that it is the work of self motivated and worldly men.
  
  2. You do not feel the need to obey the scriptures, or the God who wrote them.
  
  Based on these observations, I do not think you are qualified to teach scripture, which is the primary function of a pastor. How can you ask people to heed your words, as you expound God's word when you disregard the word yourself? I respect your opinion and your right to hold it, but your attitudes are not those of a Christian and have no place in Christian gatherings.

  You must admit that it is a fair point. Out here, your opinions stand on their own merit. But this is a question on how Christians conduct their own services. Since you ain't one, why participate in the argument?

• This woman got it from the Bible. And there are women pastors the same as some churches have Gay pastors. Neither of that makes it Biblical. I have been pointed to passages that would indicate such, but somethings are as they are. If you take what is in the Bible and just use it as you wish, one could maybe make the point that stealing is OK to because of Jim baker and other pastors who got greedy.
