Nope - especially if you are really asking "are they the answer to taking off fat, keeping it off and feeling and being healthier"...
No magic I'm afraid - but some people still want the magic button.
I trained a woman who had spent 20 years on fad diets and pills and was 30 kilo's overweight. I took her off them, put her on a diet of healthy, fresh food and no junk. I put her on a daily training program, with hard workouts once a week (with me).
In 6 months she lost 15 kilo's, completed a fun run, walked up a mountain and was taken off all blood-pressure medication.
    She felt terrific.
I stopped training her, now she'd learned everything she needed and was fit, healthy, strong and felt great.
Within a month she'd gone back to trying stupid diet pills and supplement shake thingies.
Put all the weight back on and recently went back on blood-pressure medication.
Some people don't learn even then!

No, they are a poor substitute for regular exercise and healthy eating, they do nothing to alter the bad habits that caused you, at least in part, to put on weight in the first place.

Losing weight is a bugger to do, but worth doing properly.

Yes. Don't let a "health-nut" try to confuse the issue of weight loss with other issues. Lose the weight first, improve your sex life, and then if there is time left over you can worry about health.
