guaranteed they are ANGRY. when your playing physical like that it gets emotional, especially if your losing.
It's more a part of the game than a part of the show. Players fill different rolls on each NHL team, some are the goal scorers, other's are the enforcers. ESPN did a segment on the enforcers that are on every NHL team, it is there job to protect the teams best players, and to start fights to pick up the intensity and moral.

You're reading In ice hockey, are they really that angry with the opposing team, or is it really more part of the show?

I was at a minor league game last week that it got so rough, the local cop security had to come on in and escort a player out. Not arrest, but just stopping a fight off of the ice before it starts and seperating the two before it does get out of hand. I love it, and the crowd did too, but just wonder how much is real emotion (some, of course) and how much is show. Either way, am going tomorrow and hoping for more of the same. :-)

in my city we have an OHL team. its basically jr hockey. most of the players are 16-19, and every team is allowed 1 or 2 players no older then 21. a lot of these kids end up in the nhl. 7 of last years top 10 nhl picks came from the ohl. its awsome seeing someone you saw play as a kid lighting up the nhl. they are very intense games, even here where the team is usually one of the leauges worst. but to end my rambling, especially with these kids with a ligitimate shot at reaching the worlds elite, there is even more emotion.
