  • That's what "self-help" means sweetie...it's all about you or the person buying the book. Otherwise self-help books wouldn't be sought out! "How to live a useful life by helping others" books would be da bomb! :)
  • Psychoanalysis as the cult of self worship? Its still 'all about me' but I think now its 'all about me facing up to, and accepting personal responsibility' whereas in the early day it was more about the feel-good factor.
  • Yes except it's now about how to eat skinny, eat my diet , exercise, my way, More self image than self inner child, I think.
  • It is still the same self-centered trend, and possibly more so. Even though it's a "self-help" book there should be some attempt to incorporate the "other guys" viewpoint into it. Rarely is this the case. Usually it's a litany of what you deserve, what you must demand, and rarely if ever is it about the responsibilities that you have towards others. I think this is why there is a never ending demand for these books. Nobody is going to get "right" if they are totally focused on themselves 100%. Unless, of course, they live alone in a cave and only have themselves to please.
  • You know, that's a good question. I think that, in the end, they have pretty much always tried to teach that true self help comes when you try to make oneness with the universe. I do think that they are becoming more open with that philosophy than they were but that it was always at the core of their teaching.
