Addiction knows no reason. Addiction has no mercy. The bodies craving for addictive substances overpowers the minds attempts at rational thoughts. Some of the symptoms that the medicine was designed to counteract (depression, etc) themselves lend weight to a self loathing that could also contribute to a mindset that perhaps the world (including her child) is better off without them. It is hard to understand the intensity of depression or addiction if you have never experienced it. Do not try to experience it simply to gain an understanding.
