Our cans are given to us by the city. One is for recycling and the other is just for trash. I take out 2 about every other week and usually they aren't even close to being full.

Three. We have garbage 'separation' here: one for green waste (lawn clippings, food, etc), one for recycyling (papers, plastics, etc) and one for garbage garbage. All different colored wheel totes supplied by the garbage company.

We have a big, communal wheelie-bin for our block, so I just take out a plastic sack whenever I need to. And the occasional body, of course.

I put out a nearly-full garbage receptacle about once every 2 or 3 months.
I put out a recyclables one once every 6 or 8 weeks.
