It goes back to Knights and chivalry and all that. I think they did it back then to sort of show submissivness to the woman. Getting down on both knees is to fully submit to someone, but getting down on one is dedicating half of yourself to the woman while keeping your own self in tact. If the woman says yes, then you both submit to each other.

LOL...mine proposed while laying in bed. And he didnt actually ask. He said "we should just get married." I went to sleep without comment. Next day he said it again. I still didnt answer. Then he called me a couple days later and asked if i was gonna answer him. I told him he hadnt asked me a question........long story short...he never did propose.
