Why Is My Documents (on a USB drive) Looking Like MYDOCU~1 And How Can I Change It Back To My Documents using the HKEY jank?

    Your USB drive is probably formatted with the FAT file system which only lets you see 8 letters. If you have a larger USB drive (like 512 or larger) then you can format with NTFS. This is the file system that Windows XP
    uses. here is a site that will explain how to do it step by step.
