What is the proper way to prepare a deer after it has been hunted, before the meat goes bad?

    Hubby guts it (field dresses) & stuffs it w/ bags of ice & then heads straight to the butcher.

    For starters, don't drive around with it tied on your truck showing it off. Field dress it as quickly as you can and get it cold as quickly as you can.
