Think 'Enron' of the air, but not as honest.
Take a train.
Don't look at the window during the flight and imagine you are not on a plane - you are on a ship or vehicle going on vacation.
Realize that a dozen times over, people die in car accidents more. Or you can switch to imagining you're Tinkerbell off to NeverNever land.
I usually try to get a good night's sleep before I take a flight. That makes me less jittery. I also find that listening to soft music helps keep me calm. Employing visualization techniques are also useful for helping us overcome our fears. Pretending to be a brave character from one of our favorite films also gives us a lot of intestinal fortitude.
