I worked for the same company for 36 years. I probabaly called in sick 6 times in all that time. They were all legitimate. Calling in sick when you are not is unethical.

A few months ago. Yes, I was really sick. I had an allergic reaction to a medication. Full body hives, obstructed breathing and a few days in hospital.

I agree.At my job we gain vacation hours each paycheck as well as sick time. when you quit or retire you get 100 of the sicktime pay. Plus it screws up everyone else when u call in.

It does hurt your co-workers when you call in sick. I worked for a company with unbelievable sick benefits. But if you did not use them - you did not the money when you quit or retired. There was an attendance policy but if you knew how to play the game - you could get 3 weeks a year off without pay with no ramifications. I got no payment for my good attendance but i don't regret what I did. It was the right thing to do.
