Suprisingly, no. Psychologists have discovered, in controlled tests, that people who have been deprived of sleep for days, can wake up fully refreshed by getting at or just over the amount of sleep that person gets in a normal night. Whether or ot long term damage occurs from this sleep deprivation is still being debated. shaggy

Not likely, but after a week or so, if you are used to getting more sleep, you may need to "catch up". People have insisted to me that you can never catch up on sleep, but personal experience has shown me that when I go through an entire week of sleep deprivation, I need to take an entire day to rest and recoup. Your body needs its rest, and will take it one way or the other. If you miss one night of sleep, it may not affect you longterm, but if it becomes routine, then eventually you may have trouble concentrating and thinking. Other processes will slow down so that your body gets its required "rest".
